Story

I am an environmental activist in the Idjwi fighting against climate change which causes disasters, floods, global warming which is observed in our island of Idjwi causing many victims and deaths. Our island is ignored by our national authorities and even the international community by the situation of Idjwi. We want to create our first parachute to protest against the degassing in our Lake Kivu and the sale of oil blocks in our territory.

Sustainable Actions in this Community

We young people from Idjwi parachuted in to protest against the degassing in our Lake Kivu, the sale of 3 gas blocks (Idjwi block, Makelele block and Lwandjovu) and to stop the sale of the 26 oil blocks in our territory. We have protested against fossil fuels because of the natural disasters, erosion and flooding that is happening around Lake Kivu, particularly on the island of Idjwi, territory of Kalehe, Masisi, Kabare, and in the city of Bukavu and on the extent of Democratic Republic of Congo its natural disasters claimed many victims. This is our reason for creating our parachute. We say STOP GAZ, STOP Symbion Power and Alfagiri Energies. We wanted Climate Justice to be a reality to protect our planet.
