Story

Green Leaders is a program where middle school students build leadership and communication skills to share an urgent message about birds and climate change. Recently, they engaged their neighbors in a climate awareness art project at Patterson Park’s annual Día del Niño. Hundreds of participants from the community signed the parachute with their painted handprints on behalf of protecting Baltimore’s birds and people through climate actions. Students designed the parachute to display baby Orioles alongside native flowers like Black-eyed susans and Echinacea, surrounding the words "Damos esta tierra a los niños de mañana." (We give this Earth to the children of tomorrow).

Sustainable Actions in this Community

At Día del Niño, folks wrote they would recycle more, compost, turn off lights, save water, and create a garden for birds on our pledge board. Audubon encourages and works with our community to create bird-friendly habitat in community, home, school, and work places.
