Why Parachutes?
Join the global movement to address the climate emergency! Parachutes are powerful symbols of our shared mission to restore the planet to a safe, sustainable state—essential for our health, safety, and future.
These non-functional play parachutes are decorated with collective artwork and pledges to sustainable actions and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Creating and sharing parachutes is a community-strengthening experience, bringing people together to take meaningful action and advocate for stronger environmental laws.
How to Decorate Your Parachute
Step 1: Gather and Connect
Begin by sitting together as a group around the parachute. Introduce yourselves and share your thoughts, anxieties, hopes, and ideas about climate change. Discuss your vision for the parachute, including the messages and imagery you want to convey. This conversation helps foster community solidarity and ensures that everyone's voice is reflected in the artwork. This will also clarify the committed action you will take for climate change!
Step 2: Get or Make a Parachute
Purchase one from us or sew bedsheets together to form a 12-foot (4-meter) circle. For strikes and marches, parachutes with handles are best. We recommend groups of 10-20 people per parachute.
Step 3: Design a Central Image
Start by planning a bold central design that represents your local environment or a theme. Choose a powerful statement like, “Better Climate Laws!” that can be seen from a distance.
Step 4: Add Sustainable Actions:
Encourage each participant to write their individual and collective next sustainable actions around the parachute’s edge.
Step 5: Include Your Location
Display your community's name and location along the parachute’s edge for recognition.
Step 6: Choose Your Materials Wisely
Use permanent or fabric markers, and acrylic or latex paint (diluted with 10% water) for decorating. Avoid using tape, as it may not adhere long-term.
Step 7: Drying Time
Allow at least 4 hours for the paint to dry before handling or transporting the parachute.
Event Ideas with Parachutes
1.Parachute Sit Down
Gather around the parachute, introduce yourselves, and share your environmental concerns and sustainable actions. This is a great opportunity to strengthen community bonds and rally around a shared cause.
2. Handprint Pledge – A Call to Action!
Invite participants to trace their hands on the parachute and write their next sustainable action alongside their names. This is a fantastic visual commitment to sustainable change.
3. Sustainable Actions
Encourage your group to adopt SDG-aligned actions—planting trees, reducing plastic use, switching to renewable energy, and more.
4. Show Politicians Your Parachute
Take your decorated parachute to local leaders and demand better climate policies. Let them hear the voice of your community:
“Listen to what we’re saying!”
5. March and Sing
Use the parachute creatively during demonstrations—lifting, rotating, and chanting slogans like “No Action—No Future!” or “There Is No Planet B.” This unites participants in a joyful yet impactful protest.
6. Take Part in Climate Strikes!
Join climate strikes to demand stronger environmental action from leaders and communities. Participate in an existing local march or organize your own event—bringing your decorated parachute can help amplify your message. These gatherings demonstrate the power of collective action and raise awareness about the urgent need to address climate change. Together, we can inspire meaningful change for a sustainable future!

How to Spread the Parachutes For The Planet® Project
We’re excited to welcome you to our global volunteer team—together, we can make a real impact! Reach out, get involved, and help us sustain the momentum!
Step 1: Learn About the Project
Take time to explore our website to understand the Mother Earth Project’s mission and initiatives.
Step 2: Identify Your Network
Think about schools, organizations, and individuals who might be interested. Review your address book to find connections you already have, making outreach easier.
Step 3: Engage Locally and Globally
Consider potential communities both near and far. Our project spans dozens of countries, and we welcome participation from all types of communities.
Step 4: Introduce the Project
Direct interested communities to our Parachutes For The Planet page and help them determine how many parachutes they need. We suggest 15-20 people per parachute. For parachute requests, follow instructions given in the section below.
Step 5: Inspire Action
Encourage them to share their decorated parachutes locally, take sustainable actions, and present their parachutes to local politicians to demand stronger climate laws.
